PhD Concert Nizar Rohana
‘Ūd Taqsīm as a Model of Pre-Composition
On December 14 Nizar Rohana will present the artistic outcomes of his research project in a a concert at Sijthoff in Leiden.
Nizar will perform several new works for solo ‘ūd. These pieces take the improvisation practice of two pillars of modern Arabic music, namely the Egyptians Muḥammad al-Qaṣabjī and Riyāḍ al-Sunbāṭī, as a reference model and as a source of inspiration.

Hendrik Vanden Abeele's PhD concerts and lectures
The artistic presentation of his doctoral dissertation, in the form of a concert with Ensemble Psallentes, took place on Sunday December 7th in the Lutherse Kerk, Hooglandse Kerkgracht 26, Leiden. This presentation comprised two concerts, the first one was titled 'Liquescens', the second one 'Sacrosancta Walburgis'.
On Sunday December 14th, another presentation took place, at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe-kapel Elzenveld, Lange Gasthuisstraat 45 in Antwerp. The program was titled: 'Koningskind, a winter concert with Latin and middle-dutch music from the 11th until the 16th century'.
A lecture was given on December 15th at 10h30 at the Royal Conservatoire, Juliana van Stolberglaan 1, The Hague.
