Made in Belgium!?
Zoektocht naar evolutie en invloeden binnen de Belgische orgelmuziek van Jacques-Nicolas
Lemmens (1823-1881) tot Flor Peeters (1903-1986) in functie van een artistiek verantwoorde
uitvoering.

The study focuses on the performance of Belgian organ music written in the period from the
first important organ compositions of J.-N. Lemmens up to and including the works of Flor
Peeters. An effort will be made to determine a faithful manner of performing this music.
A first step will consist in inventarizing the works that fall within the field of study. This will
be done on the basis of a variety of sources, such as existing inventaries or lists, library
catalogues, programmes, announcements in periodicals, and other archival sources.
At the same time, thorough contextual research will be carried out, consulting biographical
data, lists of works, manuscripts, variant editions, treatises on performance and all other
relevant information concerning the composer or the composition.
As it is impossible to treat all works in the same depth, a number of criteria will be fixed
during the project, which will provide objective grounds for gauging the importance of a
composition to this research. The most essential works will be added to a list of relevant
repertoire and given a prominent position in the research (with regard to number of
performances, thoroughness of analysis, etc.). This approach will maintain a comprehensive
overview of Belgian organ music, with greater detail on the material identified as more
relevant.
