documa alliance
The documa alliance was set up in 2006 by eight major European higher education institutions:
- Orpheus Institute, Ghent (BE), coordinating institution
- Leiden University, Leiden (NL)
- Conservatoire of Amsterdam, Amsterdam (NL)
- Royal Conservatoire The Hague, The Hague (NL)
- Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Association, Leuven (BE)
= the docARTES partners
- Royal College of Music, London (UK)
- Royal Holloway, University of London, London (UK)
- University of Oxford, Oxford (UK)
This alliance was established to realise a European doctoral curriculum in musical arts (documa).
As a result docARTES now organises an international, English-spoken doctoral curriculum - still called docARTES - since September 2008. The other partners involved in this documa alliance provide teaching staff, supervisors, specific expertise, research resources, etc. As member of the documa alliance, docARTES benefits from this international collaboration, offering:
- an international environment for practice-based research
- access to a wide range of research and performing resources
- involvement in an international network and forum of leading performers, composers and scholars
- a Europe-wide team of supervisors covering a diverse range of musical specialisms
- an international community of students and staff from a variety of musical backgrounds
- a joint curriculum of international seminars, workshops, colloquia and other events
The development phase of this project is funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus programme.
