Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger: life and work with special attention paid to basso continuo

G.G. Kapsperger (ca. 1580 - 1651) was a famous theorbo-player and composer in his time, known nowadays mostly for his lute-works.
With my research I aim to provide more details on Kapsperger`s life but also to present new repertory by playing and performing all his music, sacred and secular. By this it will be possible to judge if his reputation as a minor composer is justified - this reputation seems to be built upon the only negative voice amongst all the positive comments by his contemporaries, a malevolent story told by G.B.Doni.
In addition to that I will make his information on basso continuo for lute-players accessible for keyboard-players and want to have a thorough look at the practice of playing basso continuo in the first half of the 17th century from a performer`s view.
