The connection between instrument making and recorder works composed in Naples
from 1690-1730, with an incursion into other Italian cities

The tight relationship between music composition and instrument making is readily apparent in cases like that of theoboe da caccia. It would be unacceptable to deploy any other type of oboe to perform music that calls for that instrument, since it was carefully conceived to explore the capabilities of the da caccia.
Other instruments should hold just as much concern: during the 18th century, English built recorders greatly departed from German ones and the music composed with each one in mind does reflect these differences.
No research has been made into original Italian recorder building techniques and the influence their characteristics may have had on Italian recorder music composed in the early 18th century, and it is thus my aim to make this link more apparent, with focus on Baroque Naples.
