Admission requirements

The doctoral programme docARTES is designed for musician-researchers (performers, composers, etc.) from diverse backgrounds. Candidates may be practising musicians, already working professionally as performing artists or teachers or within related disciplines. They may have considerable, little or no direct experience of advanced research methodologies. Their individual educational histories may include conservatoire and/or university training.

In any case, candidates are highly accomplished and reflective practising musicians with original, clear and well articulated ideas for practice-based research.

Applicants who want to enter this doctoral programme have to meet the requirements listed below. They should:

  • hold a master´s degree in the creative or performing arts from a recognized college or university or demonstrate a comparable level of qualification
  • be able to give proof of artistic achievements of the highest level
  • have a good knowledge of English (oral & written)
  • submit a fully completed application form before the given deadline
  • successfully complete the admission procedure
