Claire Genewein was born in Munich. She studied transverse flute at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where she graduated with an honours degree. She received a concert diploma with Philippe Racine at the Zurich Academy for Music and Theatre in 1998, and subsequently a diploma for early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with flauto traverso as her main subject, and Master of Music at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag under Barthold Kuijken.
Claire Genewein received a special award from Karlheinz Stockhausen for her interpretation of the “Zungenspitzentanz” (“Tip-of-the-Tongue-Dance”) for piccolo. Claire Genewein works as a free-lance flutist in various ensembles, such as La Cetra, Venice Baroque Orchestra, L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra L’Arcadia, Ensemble Miroir and the Neue Hofkapelle Munich. She has played under the baton of Gustav Leonhardt, Andrea Marcon, Jordi Savall, Geoffrey Lancaster, William Christie etc.
Her docARTES doctoral defense took place on June 11, 2014 at Leiden University.
