Jasmijn Lootens is positioned as a multi-disciplinary artist with knowledge and experience in cello performance and composition. After completing her Bachelor of cello with J. Kruithof (LUCA School of Arts) and studying with Q. Viersen (Conservatory of Amsterdam), she finished her Master with M. Vink and graduated with highest distinction at LUCA. During an advanced Master study in contemporary music performance at LUCA and a simultaneous Bachelor in musicology at KU Leuven, she experimented with merging the roles of performer and composer, creating a symbiosis between musical composition, musical performance, and visual arts. This led to her PhD proposal which focuses on the common ground between contemporary Western art music and artistic pop music by the co-creation of interdisciplinary artistic work.

Jasmijn continually searches to draw new audiences to classical music in innovative ways. Therefore she founded the collective Oo. together with pianist/producer Michaël Verlinden and video artist Jeroen Cluckers. Their compositions connect analogue to digital, as well as acoustic instruments to live electronics and abstract visuals. Their first music film ‘Kosmos’ was shown at the Tasmanian International Video Art Festival (AUS), FILE Festival São Paolo (BRA), International Kurzfilmwoche Regensburg (DE), Ibrida Festival (IT), Vilnius (LT), International Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg (DE) and was presented as an installation at Unfair, Amsterdam (NL).

Furthermore, she has appeared in various settings as a passionate chamber musician such as in sextet with violinists Jolente De Maeyer and Wietse Beels, violists Kris Hellemans and Romain Montfort, and cellist Benjamin Glorieux. Currently she is the cellist of Nemø ensemble which focuses on performing experimental, contemporary music. She is also working with TipToe Company & ChampdAction with concerts at deSingel (Antwerp) and during Transit Festival (Leuven). As a soloist, Jasmijn has performed the Elgar and Vivaldi concertos at the Festival of Flanders (Ghent), Festival Midis-Minimes (Brussels) and during the Barok Festival (Hungary). She has also participated in many different masterclasses throughout Europe where she studied with P. Muller, G. Lipkind, E. Reijseger, G. Sollima and A. Bijlsma amongst others.
