Following his studies in musicology at the Utrecht University and Viola da Gamba with Anneke Pols and Wieland Kuijken, Johannes Boer worked mainly as a freelance musician, teacher, researcher and writer on music. Johannes Boer has performed and recorded with a variety of ensembles throughout Europe, including the Royal Consort, Cantus Cöln and Huelgas Ensemble. Johannes is additionally the editor of the Tijdschrift Oude Muziek. Johannes organizes conferences in relation with the Utrecht Early Music Festival for the Stimu (Foundation for historical performance practice); bringing musicology and performers together in these conferences. Since September 2006, Johannes has been head of the Early Music department at The Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
