Nicoleta Paraschivescu teaches the organ at the Academy of Music in Basel. Between 2020-2022 she taught harpsichord and basso continuo at the Haute ècole de musique Genève.
Paraschivescu holds a Ph.D. from the University of Leiden and completed her doctoral thesis on Giovanni Paisiello`s partimenti. She is frequently invited to give lecture-performances and masterclasses as an expert on partimento performance practice.
In recognition of her outstanding research on partimenti she was awarded the 2016 hibou-Stiftung Prize.
She completed her studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis where she received a master`s degree in organ (Jean-Claude Zehnder) and harpsichord (Andrea Marcon). Paraschivescu completed her training with Enrico Baiano in Naples and Jon Laukvik in Stuttgart. She is an organist at the church of St. Theodor in Basel and artistic director of the concert series UMSTEIGEN.
She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in concerts and at leading festivals in many European countries and is the director of the Ensemble La Floridiana. Numerous world-premiere recordings as a soloist and with the Ensemble La Floridiana document her discoveries in the field of early music and feature works by Marianna Martines, Pier Giuseppe Sandoni, Caroline Boissier-Butini, and Giovanni Paisiello, and Benedetto Marcello among others.
Paraschivescu's most significant publications include articles in the Bach-Jahrbuch 2022 (Leipzig), ZGMTH (Berlin), University of Rochester Press (NY), and Schwabe-Verlag (Basel). Her book «Giovanni Paisiellos Partimenti: Wege zu einem praxisbezogenen Verständnis» (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis Scripta 6, 2019) was recently published in English «The Partimenti of Giovanni Paisiello: Pedagogy and Practice» (University of Rochester Press, Eastman Studies in Music 184, 2022).
Her docARTES doctoral defense took place on September 9th, 2015 at Leiden University.
