This project develops compositional practices based on processes of destruction, such as erasure and degradation, which are embedded within the work itself, causing the composition to break down through its own performance.
More concretely, this project will investigate how AI and blockchain networks can be employed as co-agents within such a practice. Auto-destructive compositions are inherently transient, challenging dominant ontologies of musical compositions as fixed and repeatable, an aspect that directly connects to Assemblage Theory and posthuman philosophies.
At the core of the research lies the tension between preservation and destruction, that are not regarded as opposites but as interlinked processes. This is based on the following two premises:
In our attempts to preserve, something will always be destroyed.
In our attempts to destroy, something will always remain.
